Unlike its turn-based predecessor, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is a real-time, open-world Action RPG that blends high-speed combat with deep environmental interaction. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the gameplay is designed around three core pillars: Elemental Synergy, Character Tagging, and Environmental Exploration.

  1. The Combat System: Real-Time Tag & Burst The combat is fluid and fast-paced, focusing on a team of four heroes that you can swap (Tag) instantly during battle.

Weapon-Based Skillsets: Each character can equip one of three distinct weapon types. Changing a weapon completely alters the hero’s skills, passive abilities, and Ultimate moves, allowing for immense build variety.

The Tag System: Swapping characters isn’t just for health management. Executing a Tag Skill consumes a specific gauge and triggers a powerful entry attack that can interrupt enemy patterns or extend combos.

Elemental Burst System: Every attack builds up an elemental meter (Fire, Ice, Wind, etc.). When the meter is full, an Elemental Burst occurs, dealing massive damage and applying debuffs. The key to mastery is using one hero to apply an element and another to trigger the “Reaction” or “Burst.”

Combination Ultimates: By pairing specific characters (like Meliodas and Elizabeth, or Tristan and Tioreh), players can unleash cinematic Combination Skills that deal devastating area-of-effect damage.

  1. Open-World Exploration & “Adventure Skills” The map of Britannia is vast (approx. 30km²) and highly interactive. Exploration is not just about walking; it requires using the unique “Adventure Skills” of your roster:

Verticality & Flight: Use Tioreh to soar through the skies or King to levitate across gaps.

Environmental Interaction: Tristan can use his strength to push heavy boulders to reveal secrets, while Gilthunder can strike distant objects with lightning to solve puzzles.

Underwater Exploration: The game features fully realized underwater zones. Players can dive into lakes and oceans to find sunken chests and hidden caves, a feature rare in the genre.

  1. Progression & Life Simulation To strengthen your team for the endgame, you must engage with the world’s ecosystem:

The Book of Stars: This is your primary progression system. Upgrading it increases your World Level, which scales enemy difficulty but significantly improves the quality of loot and rewards.

Crafting & Gathering: Players can fish, mine, woodcut, and cook. These activities provide essential materials for crafting high-end gear and temporary combat buffs (potions and meals).

Day/Night Cycle: The world changes dynamically. Certain monsters only appear at night, and NPCs follow specific schedules, affecting quest availability and merchant inventories.

  1. Multiplayer & Social Features While primarily a story-driven adventure, Origin includes robust multiplayer elements:

Co-op Dungeons: Team up with up to 4 players to tackle high-level bosses and raids.

Shared Exploration: You can invite friends to your world to help solve complex puzzles or hunt “Elite” world bosses.
